Avaprex

Avaprex is an over-the-counter (OTC) diet pill that works to amplify energy, boost fat metabolism, stimulates fat burning, and may also help to curb hunger. The creators of the product (also called Avaprex) claim to be nutraceutical experts, who have worked hard to design a formula that contains the purest weight loss ingredients and is of the highest quality.

Avaprex is marketed as a safer and non-prescription alternative to popular prescription diet pill Adipex, brand name Phentermine. In other words, it’s just another Adipex alternative with unsubstantiated claims.

At the time that this review was written, a single bottle of Avaprex cost $90.91 on Amazon. Considering this was one of the only places it could be purchased online and due to its high price, as well as the fact that there is no official website, this is very good indication that the product has been discontinued.

Avaprex Ingredients

With that in mind, the following were the ingredients that were part of the Avaprex formula when this review was written:

  • Raspberry Ketone
  • Green Tea
  • Caffeine

Proprietary Blend:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Grapefruit
  • Kelp
  • Acai Fruit
  • African Mango
  • Resveratrol Extract

If you are familiar with popular ingredients frequently used in the OTC weight loss diet pill industry, you likely recognized many of the substances listed above. They have all be touted for their positive effects, such as fat burning, energy boosting and appetite suppression. That being said, regardless of the claims you may have heard about these ingredients, none of them have ever been proven effective in regard to leading to measurable weight loss. Moreover, Avaprex, itself, has never been clinically proven effective.

Caffeine and green tea are the ingredients with the most promise in this formula. Research has found that, in addition to boosting mental alertness, when combined with physical activity, they can help boost metabolism and fat burning. Still, due to the fact that it is unknown how much of each substance is in one serving, there’s no way of knowing just how effective it will be.

Potential Side Effects

It should also be noted that stimulant ingredients can lead to unpleasant side effects, such as headache, jitters, insomnia, etc.

You should also know that other side effects that may occur with Avaprex including:

  • Abdominal gas
  • Flushes
  • Nausea
  • Heartburn
  • Upset stomach

Be that as it may, if Avaprex is an OTC diet pill that you are considering, make sure you consult with your healthcare practitioner before you take it to make sure that it is a smart and safe option for you.

Update: November 2020

As it was assumed at the time the above Avaprex review was written, this OTC diet pill product has been discontinued. Currently, it can no longer be found online for purchase in any of its forms. Amazon still lists the product, but it is “currently unavailable”.

What to Consider Before Buying Another Adipex Alternative

Avaprex isn’t the first diet pill product to be marketed as an over the counter Adipex alternative and it won’t be the last. If you are seeking a nonprescription diet pill that can provide you with the benefits that the prescription weight loss medication phentermine can offer, you should know that no such product truly exists.

There are diet pills available that can offer you support with your weight management efforts, such as engaging in regular fitness-appropriate exercise and adhering to a healthy calorie-conscious diet. These diet pills tend to offer support in regard to fat burning, improved mental focus, boosted metabolism and energy, helping to make it easier to keep up with the efforts that will/are making a difference to your waistline.

To find the best of these weight loss supplement products make sure that the diet pills that interest you are not like Avaprex. In other words, ensure that:

  • The product has clinically researched ingredients
  • The manufacturer doesn’t make unsubstantiated claims regarding the benefits
  • There is an official website for the product
  • The price is cost competitive
  • There is a money-back guarantee

Not All Clinically Researched Ingredients are Beneficial for Weight Loss

Finally, it’s also worth noting that when you are seeking the highest quality diet pills, it’s not simply enough for a product to contain clinically researched ingredients. Beyond simply using ingredients that have been scientifically studied, it is also important to check if those ingredients have been found to have any potential positive effect on weight management. More specifically, weight loss in humans.

For instance, the main ingredient in Avaprex is Raspberry Ketone. This ingredient is a well-known antioxidant and many believe that this chemical from red raspberries can help with obesity. Although it has been studied, and some research involving animals or test tubes have shown that this ingredient may possibly increase metabolism, boost the rate at which the body burns fat, and lower appetite, there is no reliable clinical evidence that raspberry ketone helps in the improvement of weight loss in humans.

As such, it is important to make sure that the ingredients used in the OTC diet pills that interest you have not only been clinically researched, but that the findings of this research (conducted on human subjects) offer some support to the benefit claims the manufacturer has made about this product.

Phenterex

Phenterex is a nonprescription weight management aid that claims to function as both an appetite suppressant and fat burner. Moreover, not only does it supposedly boost energy, suppress the appetite and burn fat like the prescription diet drug, Phentermine, the claim is that this dietary supplement can also boost thermogenic body heat.

What Phenterex Claims to Do for You

According to the official product page at the time that this Phenterex review was written, those who take the product can expect to quickly lose weight, and reshape their body by:

  • Melting away cellulite
  • Melting away flab
  • Melting away fat

Already, the claims about this product sound a little too good to be true. For starters, while losing weight can help to minimize the appearance of cellulite in certain people, no product has ever been proven to “melt” it away. Too-good-to-be-true promises such as this one leads one to question just how effective Phenterex is for weight loss. To answer this question, it is important to take a look at its ingredients.

A Look Inside the Formula

The Phenterex ingredients that could be found within the formula when this review was created included the following:

  • Vitamin B-6,
  • Theobromine,
  • Iodine,
  • Cayenne Pepper,
  • Chromium,
  • Green Tea Leaf,
  • Guarana,
  • Garcinia Cambogia,
  • Chitosan,
  • Gymnema,
  • Banaba,
  • Calcium Pyruvate,
  • Apple Cider Vinegar,
  • Grapefruit,
  • White Willow Bark,
  • Uva Ursi,
  • Coleus Forskohlii,
  • Juniper Berry,
  • Buchu Leaves

While the official site states that the formula contains “the finest and most premium ingredients that are required for optimal weight loss,” there is no clinical evidence provided to back up this claim. Furthermore, none of these ingredients have been sufficiently studied to be proven effective for weight loss. Since this is the case, there is no actual guarantee that you will lose weight from taking this product.

Potential Side Effects

Furthermore, it should not go unmentioned that certain ingredients within Phenterex may cause adverse side effects in some people. For instance, there are multiple stimulants in the formula, including Green Tea Leaf and Guarana. Stimulants can increase the risk of:

  • Insomnia
  • Heartburn
  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Mood changes
  • Dizziness
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Anxiety
  • Restlessness

According to the official product webpage, those who take Penterex should supposedly begin experiencing weight loss within 2 weeks of taking the pills. This pill should be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise program. At the time that this review was written, a single bottle containing 60 tablets cost $44.98 online.

Don’t Blindly Trust the Claims

Remember, no matter how impressive the manufacturer may make this product sound, there is zero proof that it can help you with your weight loss goals or that it is even safe to take. Moreover, due to the large number of ingredients in the formula, it is unlikely that there are sufficient quantities of each supplement for them to provide any real benefit, even if there was proof that they were effective.

Anyone who is considering taking Phenterex should speak with their medical physician. This is particularly important if you have a known health condition, or if you are currently taking prescription medication, nonprescription products, or herbal supplements.

It is also important to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, nursing a baby or are planning on becoming pregnant. As a general precaution, you should never take any weight loss product without first making sure that it is safe for you to do so.

August 2019 Update: Phenterex is no longer available. An official website could not be found for this product and it was not sold online. It is likely that it has been discontinued, although it may also have been reformulated or is being sold under a different name. Whatever the case may be, it no longer exists as the product reviewed above.

AtraFen

AtraFen is a thermogenic appetite suppressant that promises to help burn calories while you’re at rest and to burn even more when you’re physically active. AtraFen is a weight loss supplement from Nutratech that has been designed to help with weight loss and long-term weight management. AtraFen is available in both pill and liquid form (diet drops). It is also available in a nighttime formula. This particular review is focusing on the standard diet pill product.

At the time that his review was written, the official product page states that the manufacturer has developed a product that was formulated after carefully following “real” science and studies that were conducted on humans.

While this does sound impressive, it is important to note that the actual AtraFen product itself has never been studied only the ingredients within it have. Therefore, even if the ingredients have been studied to determine their efficacy and safety for weight loss, the particular AtraFen proprietary blend has not. Right off the bat, this means there is no guarantee that taking these diet pills will result in more calorie burning, appetite suppression or reduced weight.

That being said, while there is no guarantee that it will work, this doesn’t mean that it won’t either. That’s why it is important to take a closer look at the ingredients in the formula. The proprietary formula contains a blend of African Mango Extract, Raspberry Ketone, Green Tea Extract, Acai Fruit, Caffeine Anhydrous, Resveratrol, Apple Cider Vinegar, Grapefruit, Kelp.

What do studies have to say about these ingredients? Research has found that caffeine can boost mental focus and alertness and may be beneficial at burning more fat, particularly when combined with physical activity. The same can be said for green tea.

There are also several antioxidants in this formula including acai fruit, grapefruit, raspberry ketones and green tea. Antioxidant-rich ingredients are good for overall health and may help with weight loss, particularly when combined with exercise.

Apple cider vinegar is believed to help prevent the digestion of carbs, Kelp is thought to assist in balancing PH level and resveratrol may block a cellular process that contributes to the development of fat cells.

Sadly, there is no solid clinical evidence that any of these ingredients will lead to measureable weight loss. Furthermore a single serving size of the AtraFen formula is 1 capsule and each serving contains 600mg of the proprietary blend. However, it is not revealed how much of each ingredient makes up the total 600mg blend.

As for side effects, possible risks include insomnia, jitters, anxiety, digestive distress, headache, rapid heartbeat, etc.

When this review was written, a single bottle of AtraFen (containing 60 capsules) cost $39.99. That said, prior to taking this product you should first speak with your medical practitioner.
