Curb Appetite Suppressant

Curb Appetite Suppressant is marketed as a “natural appetite control formula”. Designed to help you naturally reduce your appetite and hunger, VH Nutrition’s Curb is a dietary supplement that supposedly does not rely on a single ingredient to deliver results. Instead it is “formulated on a proprietary matrix of natural herbs and extracts.”

All the being said, here are the ingredients that were a part of the Curb formula when this review was written: Yerba Mate, Green Tea, Garcinia Cambogia, Hoodia Gordonii, Dandelion Root, Bitter Orange and Irvingia Gabonesis.

The recommended dosage is to take 2 capsules with water every 4 to 6 hours or as needed to control appetite. Users are cautioned to avoid using stimulants in excess while taking Curb because this could cause sleep disturbances, anxiety and nervousness.

With the exception of dandelion root, which reduces water retention, all the other ingredients in this formula are believed to aid in appetite suppression. That being said, more research needs to be conducted to determine the effects these herbs have on the body as well as how safe they are. What’s more, even if the blend of these ingredients should reduce your appetite (although there is no proof that this will happen) this doesn’t mean that you will experience weight loss. You still need to adhere to a calorie-controlled healthy diet and engage in regular exercise if you want to see measurable fat loss occur.

It should also be noted that while on the manufacturer’s official product page for Curb Appetite Suppressant it says that “Curb does not rely on intense stimulants such as Caffeine to control hunger,” this doesn’t mean this product is without stimulants.

On the contrary, the formula contains bitter orange, also known as citrus aurantium. This herb naturally contains a stimulant called synephrine. It is believed to function as an appetite suppressant, metabolism booster and thermogenic (enables the body to burn fat at a faster rate).

That being said, this stimulant can be unsafe, especially when it is combined with other stimulants like caffeine or herbs containing caffeine, such as Yerba Mate and Green Tea (both of which contain caffeine and are used in this product). When taken with caffeine, synephrine can increase a person’s risk of high blood pressure. Combined with caffeine, it can also boost the risk of other stimulant-related effects and, depending on the dosage, may increase the risk of fainting, heart attack and stroke.

Prior to taking Curb Appetite Suppressant, consider speaking with your healthcare professional.

Nuphedrine is an over-the-counter (OTC) diet pill with “clinically proven weight loss technology”. According to the official website for this product at the time that this review was written, it is the “only pill to bring you both: real certified South African Hoodia & Patented Advantra-Z”. It was designed to help you burn more calories every day, enhance the ratio of lean muscle, reduce weight, stimulate thermogenesis, suppress your appetite, and boost athletic performance when used in conjunction with diet and exercise.

When this review was written, Nuphedrine contained the following ingredients within its proprietary formula: Advantra-Z (citrus aurantium), Hoodia Gordonii, and Slimaluma (caralluma fimbriata). 3 capsules make up one serving and each serving contains 1500mg of the proprietary blend.

Users are instructed to either follow the directions on the bottle or the directions of their healthcare provider when taking Nuphedrine. The product’s directions are to take 3 capsules daily with plenty of water: 2 capsules should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach and 1 capsule should be taken in the afternoon. In addition, keep in mind that for optimal results, this diet pill should be used alongside conventional weight loss methods, including a calorie-conscious diet and regular exercise.

While Nuphedrine does contain ingredients that have been clinically researched by scientists to determine their effects and how they work in the body, these ingredients have never been clinically proven to cause weight loss.

What is known about Advantra-Z, which is a patented version of the herb citrus aurantium (bitter orange) is that it works on the central nervous system and increases heart rate, which can help to boost metabolism. This may lead to more fat burning, particularly when combined with physical exercise. It’s effects are due to synephrine, a natural occurring stimulant found in citrus aurantium. That said, some research has found that because of synephrine’s ability to increase heart rate and raise blood pressure, it may not be safe to use as a dietary supplement as it could have harmful effects in some people, including serious cardiovascular effects (heart attack, stroke, etc.), particularly when combined with other stimulants such as caffeine.

Simaluma is believed to help suppress appetite. Some research has found that caralluma fimbriata – a cactus plant – may help to assist in the reduction of hunger, which can lead to a reduced calorie intake. However, no research has found this herb to have any measureable effect on weight loss.

Hoodia has long been touted as an appetite suppressant used for centuries by South African bushmen, but not clinical study has ever proven that the herb – regardless of its level of purity – suppresses hunger.

Due to this product containing citrus aurantium, prior to taking Nuphedrine, it is recommended that you consult with your healthcare provider to make sure that this is a safe product for you. This is especially important if you are currently taking medications or other supplements or if you have a medical condition or are pregnant, nursing or planning to become pregnant.

Phenadrine Xtreme

Another Phentermine alternative diet pill from Biogen, Phenadrine Xtreme is a non-prescription diet pill that supposedly helps weight loss seekers to control their appetite, obtain long-lasting energy and thermogenesis. According to the information on the official product page, Phenadrine Xtreme’s formulation was created based on the “latest scientific research”.

The ingredients that make up the Phenadrine Xtreme formula include Green Coffee Bean extract (200mg), Natural Caffeine (200mg), Capsaicin (15mg), Chromium Polynicotinate (200µg), Hoodia Gordonii (400mg) and the Hardcore-Xtreme TM Blend [Yerba Mate, Octopamine HCl, Citrus Aurantium, N-acetyl-L-carnitine (680mg)]. One serving size is equal to 3 capsules.

The above list reveals that this product contains several ingredients and it is nice to see that the manufacturer has provided how much of each ingredient is in one serving (with the exception of the Hardcore-Xtreme TM Blend), which gives users an idea of just how much of each substance they are ingesting.

It also reveals that the formula contains many ingredients that are well known in the weight loss industry, such as green coffee bean, caffeine, chromium, hoodia, yerba mate, and citrus aurantium (bitter orange). Unfortunately, what is true about many of these well known ingredients is that they are not clinically proven to be safe or effective for weight loss.

Take Hoodia, for example, this herb, which has been touted for centuries as an appetite suppressant, has never been clinically proven to successfully have this effect on those who take it.

Furthermore, while it does contain stimulant ingredients that act as thermogenics and have been proven to boost mental focus, energy, and even improve fat burning when combined with exercise (ex. caffeine), Phenadrine Xtreme contains many stimulants. This may be more of a hindrance than a help. The reason is that stimulants like caffeine – which is also in the ingredients yerba mate and green coffee bean – can cause unwanted side effects like insomnia, fast heart rate, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, jitters, etc. The more stimulants there are, the higher the risk of side effects occurring.

It should also be pointed out that citrus aurantium contains the stimulant synephrine, which enhances the effects of caffeine. This includes both its good effects and the bad ones. The FDA has cautioned that combining these two ingredients can be a dangerous combination, even for healthy individuals, with the potential to cause side effects like increased blood pressure, stroke and heart attack.

Overall, Phenadrine Xtreme appears to be a fat burner that is likely to give you an energy boost. If you are interested in trying this product, remember that it is better to be safe than sorry. Consult with your healthcare provider.
