Curb Appetite Suppressant

Curb Appetite Suppressant is marketed as a “natural appetite control formula”. Designed to help you naturally reduce your appetite and hunger, VH Nutrition’s Curb is a dietary supplement that supposedly does not rely on a single ingredient to deliver results. Instead it is “formulated on a proprietary matrix of natural herbs and extracts.”

All the being said, here are the ingredients that were a part of the Curb formula when this review was written: Yerba Mate, Green Tea, Garcinia Cambogia, Hoodia Gordonii, Dandelion Root, Bitter Orange and Irvingia Gabonesis.

The recommended dosage is to take 2 capsules with water every 4 to 6 hours or as needed to control appetite. Users are cautioned to avoid using stimulants in excess while taking Curb because this could cause sleep disturbances, anxiety and nervousness.

With the exception of dandelion root, which reduces water retention, all the other ingredients in this formula are believed to aid in appetite suppression. That being said, more research needs to be conducted to determine the effects these herbs have on the body as well as how safe they are. What’s more, even if the blend of these ingredients should reduce your appetite (although there is no proof that this will happen) this doesn’t mean that you will experience weight loss. You still need to adhere to a calorie-controlled healthy diet and engage in regular exercise if you want to see measurable fat loss occur.

It should also be noted that while on the manufacturer’s official product page for Curb Appetite Suppressant it says that “Curb does not rely on intense stimulants such as Caffeine to control hunger,” this doesn’t mean this product is without stimulants.

On the contrary, the formula contains bitter orange, also known as citrus aurantium. This herb naturally contains a stimulant called synephrine. It is believed to function as an appetite suppressant, metabolism booster and thermogenic (enables the body to burn fat at a faster rate).

That being said, this stimulant can be unsafe, especially when it is combined with other stimulants like caffeine or herbs containing caffeine, such as Yerba Mate and Green Tea (both of which contain caffeine and are used in this product). When taken with caffeine, synephrine can increase a person’s risk of high blood pressure. Combined with caffeine, it can also boost the risk of other stimulant-related effects and, depending on the dosage, may increase the risk of fainting, heart attack and stroke.

Prior to taking Curb Appetite Suppressant, consider speaking with your healthcare professional.

Diet-Phen

Diet-Phen with St. John’s Wort is a dietary supplement from Source Naturals. It is a weight loss product that has been designed to be used as a part of the Diet-Phen Weight Loss Plan. It has been specially formulated to help support a positive mood, boost mental alertness and assist in weight loss.

Three tablets make up one serving size of Diet-Phen. The ingredients include: Chromium, St. John’s Wort, L-Phenylalanine, Hypericins, Guarana, Acetyl L-Carnitine HCl, Lipoic Acid, Yerba Mate, Green Tea, Resveratrol, Ginger Root.

Users are instructed to take 1 or 2 tablets in the morning, 30 minutes prior to breakfast and one tablet 30 minutes before lunch. No more than three pills should be exceeded in a day and Diet-Phen should not be taken before bedtime because this product contains stimulants (ex. guarana, green tea) and ingredients that boost the effects of stimulants (ex L-phenylalanine). When this Diet-Phen review was written, a single bottle of 180 tablets cost $26.77 on Amazon.

In terms of effectiveness, Diet-Phen contains many ingredients that have been studied for weight loss, such as l-phnylalnine, guarana, green tea, yerba mate, ginger root and so on. Of all these ingredients, green tea and guarana (which both contain caffeine) have shown the most promise in terms of helping with fat loss. Research has shown that when combined with physical activity, caffeine can enhance fat burning, which may be beneficial to those seeking to drop pounds. That being said, don’t expect any miracles if you take this product by itself. A healthy, calorie-conscious diet and regular exercise is key for any effective weight loss program.

In terms of precautions, Diet-Phen is not meant for long term use. It is also recommended that you avoid drinking alcohol when taking this diet pill. Tell your doctor of any previously existing or current medical conditions that you may have. You should also inform your healthcare provider of any medications (prescription or OTC) and supplements that you may be taking to ensure that Diet-Phen is safe for you to take.

As for side effects, anyone with a wheat allergy should not take this supplement as it contains wheat. If you are sensitive to stimulants, you should also avoid taking this diet pill. Stimulant-related side effects that may be experienced when taking Diet-Phen may include, but are not necessarily limited to: insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, headache, mood swings, stomach upset, ringing in the ears, etc.

Finally, Diet-Phen contains St. John’s Wort, which can cause negative side effects like vivid dreams, headache, dizziness, tingling, skin rash, anxiety, stomach upset, restlessness and so on. Keep this information in mind if you decide to take this weight loss aid.

Phenadrine Xtreme

Another Phentermine alternative diet pill from Biogen, Phenadrine Xtreme is a non-prescription diet pill that supposedly helps weight loss seekers to control their appetite, obtain long-lasting energy and thermogenesis. According to the information on the official product page, Phenadrine Xtreme’s formulation was created based on the “latest scientific research”.

The ingredients that make up the Phenadrine Xtreme formula include Green Coffee Bean extract (200mg), Natural Caffeine (200mg), Capsaicin (15mg), Chromium Polynicotinate (200µg), Hoodia Gordonii (400mg) and the Hardcore-Xtreme TM Blend [Yerba Mate, Octopamine HCl, Citrus Aurantium, N-acetyl-L-carnitine (680mg)]. One serving size is equal to 3 capsules.

The above list reveals that this product contains several ingredients and it is nice to see that the manufacturer has provided how much of each ingredient is in one serving (with the exception of the Hardcore-Xtreme TM Blend), which gives users an idea of just how much of each substance they are ingesting.

It also reveals that the formula contains many ingredients that are well known in the weight loss industry, such as green coffee bean, caffeine, chromium, hoodia, yerba mate, and citrus aurantium (bitter orange). Unfortunately, what is true about many of these well known ingredients is that they are not clinically proven to be safe or effective for weight loss.

Take Hoodia, for example, this herb, which has been touted for centuries as an appetite suppressant, has never been clinically proven to successfully have this effect on those who take it.

Furthermore, while it does contain stimulant ingredients that act as thermogenics and have been proven to boost mental focus, energy, and even improve fat burning when combined with exercise (ex. caffeine), Phenadrine Xtreme contains many stimulants. This may be more of a hindrance than a help. The reason is that stimulants like caffeine – which is also in the ingredients yerba mate and green coffee bean – can cause unwanted side effects like insomnia, fast heart rate, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, jitters, etc. The more stimulants there are, the higher the risk of side effects occurring.

It should also be pointed out that citrus aurantium contains the stimulant synephrine, which enhances the effects of caffeine. This includes both its good effects and the bad ones. The FDA has cautioned that combining these two ingredients can be a dangerous combination, even for healthy individuals, with the potential to cause side effects like increased blood pressure, stroke and heart attack.

Overall, Phenadrine Xtreme appears to be a fat burner that is likely to give you an energy boost. If you are interested in trying this product, remember that it is better to be safe than sorry. Consult with your healthcare provider.

Phenadrine Slim Sticks

Not all over-the-counter phentermine alternatives come in the form of diet pills. This is the case with Phenadrine Slim Sticks, a weight loss product from Biogen that has been designed as powder to be mixed with water and taken as a beverage. It has been formulated to boost energy, encourage rapid fat loss support, enhance mood and stimulate metabolism and the breakdown of fat.

Phenadrine Slim Sticks contain several ingredients within its proprietary blend. They include: Mango Seed (Irvingia Gabonensis) extract, Green coffee bean extract (45% chlorogenic acid), Caffeine anhydrous, Citrus Aurantium (30% extract), Yerba Mate (25% Xanthins), N-acetyl-l-carnitine. It also contains Inulin (Prebiotic fibre), Flavorants, Citric acid, Malic acid, Non-nutrative sweetener blend (Acesulfame-K, Aspartame [contains Phenylalanine]), Colorant, (E124, E104, E110).

The ingredients within the proprietary blend are believed to help with weight loss. For instance, Mango Seed is said to lower cholesterol levels and improve blood circulation. Green coffee bean supposedly helps to quickly burn fat. Caffeine can increase mental alertness and may increase metabolism. Citrus Aurantium is believed to increase metabolism, energy and calorie expenditure and may act as an appetite suppressant. N-acetyl-l-carnitine is believed to encourage the uptake of fatty acids into your cell mitochondria, so more of your energy comes from burning stored fat. Yerba Mate may help with appetite control.

Unfortunately, aside from caffeine having been clinical proven to increase alertness, none of these ingredients has ever been scientifically proven safe or effective for weight loss. Therefore, while Phenadrine Slim Sticks may give you a boost in mental alertness, there is no guarantee that they will help you lose weight.

In addition, this product contains more than one stimulant. A risk of unpleasant side effects such as insomnia, jitters, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, and other stimulant-related effects is possible with this supplement. Furthermore, be advised that it contains both caffeine and synephrine (a naturally occurring stimulant in citrus aurantium), which can be a dangerous combination as synephrine enhances the effects of caffeine, and this could lead to serious cardiovascular effects including high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack. Anyone interested in taking this product should first speak with their healthcare provider.

The suggested dose for Phenadrine Slim Sticks is to take 3 sachets per day, 1 sachet 30 minutes prior to meals or snacks. A single sachet should be added to 500ml of water. It is recommended for users to take the first dose on an empty stomach in the morning either before breakfast or before a workout. The second dose should be taken before lunch. If users choose to take a third dose, it should be taken prior to 4 pm to avoid sleeping difficulties.

Users are also instructed to take this product 5 days in a row and to stop it for 2 days before beginning again. The manufacturer recommends taking Phenadrine Slim Sticks in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
